At Veterinary Cardiology Consultants, we feel that it is important for you to be prepared and know what to expect prior to your visit. Below we have provided answers to some of the most commonly asked questions. If you have any additional questions please feel free to contact us.

Where are you located?

Our main office is located at 24360 Novi Road, Novi, MI 48375. We have an outpatient office located in Rochester. Please see our Contact Page for driving directions.

What are your hours?

Consultations are seen Monday through Friday (generally 8am-4pm). We see patients at our Novi office Monday – Friday. We see patients at our Rochester office on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. Emergency patients are admitted and evaluated on a case-by-case basis. We encourage you to choose the office location that is most convenient for you.

All appointments are required to confirm their appointments. We reach out to all of our clients by phone, text and email. Any appointments not confirmed are subject to cancellation. We have a strict cancellation policy. We require a minimum of 24 hours notice due to our vast case load and extensive waitlist.

What do I need to bring to my first appointment?

Please plan on arriving 10 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment time in order to complete a new client questionnaire. This allows us an opportunity to create a medical record for your pet. Please be sure to bring along your pet’s recent medical records, laboratory results or thoracic radiographs so that they can be reviewed at your appointment. We also ask that you bring any medications that your pet is taking.

What happens during the appointment?

You and your pet will be greeted by a cardiology technician and escorted into an examination room. Our cardiology technicians will obtain a brief medical history from you and record your pet’s weight and vital signs. This information will be shared with the doctor. The cardiologist will review this information with you and perform a thorough physical examination on your pet. He or she will then make recommendations for diagnostic testing and treatment options. A detailed treatment plan outlining the cost will be presented for your review and consent. Most cardiac diagnostic testing and treatment can be completed within 1 hour. There are some procedures that may require additional time (thoracocentesis, abdominocentesis and pericardiocentesis).

Will my pet be anesthetized or sedated for testing or treatment?

In almost all cases, cardiac diagnostic testing can be completed without anesthesia, sedation or tranquilization. Most dogs and cats are very tolerant and they let us complete the testing with minimal restraint. On rare occasions, it becomes necessary to sedate a pet to help relieve their anxiety and to more safely complete the procedure. It is generally unnecessary to withhold your pet’s food prior to their appointment. Please continue to give all cardiac medications as directed by your veterinarian prior to your appointment.

What does it cost?

The total cost for a cardiac consultation and comprehensive echocardiogram is $535. Other diagnostic testing may be suggested as needed.

What payment options do you offer?

Payment is required at the time services are provided. If your pet needs to be hospitalized, a deposit may be required. We accept cash, checks, Visa, MasterCard, Discover, American Express and Care Credit.
